Ready-to-wear suits are made to standard sizes and sold finished. Made-to-measure suits are cut to your own measurements and preferences. Neither is automatically the right answer.
Fit
Standard sizing works well if your proportions match the size chart. If your shoulders, chest and waist fall into different sizes, or if one shoulder sits lower than the other, a made-to-measure pattern handles this directly instead of relying on alterations.
Choice
With made-to-measure you select the cloth, lining, buttons, lapel style and pocket configuration. Ready-to-wear limits you to what is on the rail, which can be an advantage when you want a decision made quickly.
When ready-to-wear makes sense
- You need something immediately
- Your measurements sit close to a standard size
- The garment will only be worn occasionally
When made-to-measure makes sense
- The suit is for an event where fit matters
- You want a specific cloth, colour or detail
- You expect to wear the suit regularly for years
Time
Made-to-measure requires a consultation, measurements and at least one fitting. If you are visiting Bali, begin early in your stay so there is room in the schedule for adjustments.
