How Custom Tailoring Works in Bali

What to expect when you order a made-to-measure suit or shirt while staying in Bali, from the first consultation to the final fitting.

Ordering custom clothing in Bali is straightforward once you understand the steps. The process is built around conversation and measurement rather than picking a size off a rail, so a little planning makes the result much better.

Step one: the consultation

The first meeting is about intent. You describe where the garment will be worn — a wedding on the coast, business meetings, everyday wear — and we talk through cut, structure and colour. Bringing a photo of something you like is often more useful than describing it in words.

Step two: materials

Fabric choice affects how a garment drapes, breathes and ages. In a tropical climate, lighter and more open weaves are usually more comfortable. For leather pieces, the hide, thickness and finish are chosen the same way.

  • Lighter weights and breathable weaves for daily wear in Bali
  • Firmer cloth where a garment needs to hold its shape
  • Linings and trims selected alongside the main material

Ask about the details

Buttons, lapel width, pocket style, vents and lining colour are all decisions you can make. They are recorded before cutting begins.

Step three: measurements

Measurements are taken in person and combined with notes on posture and preferred fit. This is what separates made-to-measure from an off-the-rack purchase, and it is why the fitting stage later is usually short.

Step four: fitting and adjustment

You try the garment on and adjustments are marked — sleeve length, waist, shoulder balance. Once corrected, the piece is pressed and finished by hand.

Timing and logistics

Because visitors often have fixed travel dates, it helps to start early in your stay. If travelling to Legian is inconvenient, home-visit consultations can be arranged in Kuta, Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud and Uluwatu.
